PSP: Schuylkill-based Leiby’s Dairy a total loss after Saturday morning fire

WALKER TWP., Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) say a commercial building in Walker Township, Schuylkill County, is a total loss after flames tore through it on Saturday morning.

According to PSP, fire crews were dispatched to Leiby’s Dairy around 3:39 a.m. for a report of the fire — which was reported by a newspaper delivery person on their morning route.

According to police, water to battle the flames needed to be transported via truck to the scene from a nearby pond. The building collapsed before crews could completely extinguish the fire, police said.

Police said the building is a “complete loss,” with preliminary damage estimated at more than $1 million. No firefighters or civilians were injured, as the company was not operating at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
