Pro-Palestinian demonstrators halt proceedings at the California Assembly

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators calling for a cease-fire in Gaza forced California lawmakers in the Assembly into recess on Wednesday. The session was then adjourned. Lawmakers cleared the chamber as the demonstrators hung banners and chanted, KCRA 3’s Ashley Zavala reported. The demonstrators also unfurled banners at the Capitol Rotunda. The protest comes as a letter has circulated among state Capitol staffers to urge their bosses to support a cease-fire in Gaza. Meanwhile, Republicans in the Assembly plan to introduce a resolution condemning Hamas this month. Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher has said this is to “make a statement of moral clarity in California and add to the world voices rejecting Hamas and their hate-filled ideology.”This story is developing.
