Community mourns the loss of Durham real estate agent found dead in office building

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham community mourns the loss of Liliana Concha Perez, a cherished real estate agent and friend, Thursday night. Perez, was discovered dead in her office building, alongside a man her family says was her former boyfriend.

Perez leaves behind two children, a grandchild, and a community that deeply cared for her.

“She was fun. She loved to laugh,” Mauricio Concha Perez, Liliana’s younger brother, said.

Through her real estate agency, the 55-year-old made a significant mark on Durham, helping countless Latinx immigrants navigate the path to homeownership.

“It’s about helping people make their dreams come true, and she did that with a lot of people,” Mauricio said.

That real estate office building where Perez changed lives would be the same one where she was found dead on Tuesday around midnight from a gunshot wound.

“A part of my soul died on Tuesday,” Mauricio said. “She was everything to me.”

Raleigh police say another person, a man, was found dead, too.

According to police, he shot himself.

Mauricio says the man was his sister’s business partner and former boyfriend.

“I knew he was very jealous, possessive and obsessive,” Mauricio said.

WRAL has reached out to police to confirm the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

However, investigators do not have additional details to release right now.

Now, Mauricio mourns the loss of his sister while waiting for any answers.

“She agreed to go out with him. And then she never came back,” Mauricio said.

The victim’s family has asked the U.S. government to expedite her mother’s humanitarian visa application.

Her mother is currently in Colombia, and unless she gets that visa, she won’t be able to attend her own daughter’s funeral.

Raleigh police are handling the investigation.

They are not seeking suspects and say there’s no threat to the public.
